eBay or Amazon or both

I finished reading an interesting e-Book and I cannot wait to share with you:

Selling on “The River”
The eBook Seller’s guide to Amazon.com
by former eBay University Instructor Steve Lindhorst,
foreword by Skip McGrath.

I was surprised, intrigue, and delighted in the same time because usually people are bias but Steve and Skip are really open minded and talented business men.

The general ideas are:
  • Don’t put all your eggs in just one basket! There are good benefits coming out from Multi-Channel Selling
  • eBay and Amazon are different, the rules are different, the audience is different
  • Both Steve and Skip want to use eBay and Amazon because they can compensate each other and they totally ignore “eBay Alternative Sites”
I cannot agree more. I looked at what we call “eBay Alternative Sites”, and I am not impressed. The software is poor, rules are simple and loopholes will be easy to create and abuse. If one of them will get as sophisticated as eBay application is now, maybe, but this is going to happen many years from now. Nobody can compete with eBay over the night.

To use both make a lot of sense to me.
EBay remains an “auction” company, still perfect for collectibles, antiques and vintages items, art and craft as well.
But the market place is changing as we speak. In the last 2-3 years people are more inclined to buy “fix-price” items, they don’t have time, and patience to follow an auction.
Amazon is perfect as a “fix-price” place to buy and sell.

I know the eBay rules but never had time to discover the Amazon rules, mainly because eBay use to educate people about eBay, but Amazon through you in the jungle and let you to discover how to get out of it and use it properly. If you meet a lion they don't care.

Steve Lindhorst is a very good teacher, he explains in details:
  • what eBay and Amazon have in common,
  • what is different and
  • when is better to use one or the other.
Finally I discovered the Amazon rules, and YES, make sense to use both eBay and Amazon not one against other. Use one to compensate the other.

After you read the 50 pages Steve’s e-Book you can jump and sell on Amazon as well.

Good luck!
Regards
Michaela
