Yes, your eBay business will go on top shortly

Ebay was for years our favorite auction selling platform.
After eBay banned Digital Products listed with digital delivered, fact which caught us by surprise, after implementing endless changes in 2008, which contribute to general confusion, I am confident to tell you that eBay will revitalize by his base of sellers.

It is not because they as a company come up with some genius ideas, it is because the work of dedicated sellers is showing now the determination to succeed and they work tireless to improved eBay business that some time really means there business as well.

By the way, the really genius ideas was the ideas of eBay founders. I remain you just one of them: eBay founders treated equally sellers and buyers therefore a negative feedback can be write for both of them, now is prohibited to live negatives for buyers.
This is fundamental, and the new eBay team has worked hard to destroy it. They create good rules for “buyers” and complete ignore sellers.
In consequence:
  • a lot of sellers left eBay
  • the buyers abuse the new rules
  • the eBay tried to soften the rules they just created, but they don’t admitted that the new rules are the problem and of course they don’t come back to the golden rules the founders created from the beginning.
As a seller, I was a victim, if you are curious just drop a line in a comment and I’ll explain what happen.

Let’s come back to my idea - the good work of our piers.

First, Steve Lindhorst, an eBay Instructor, wrote a book called “Selling on the River”.

It wasn’t a "bash eBay" book. He objectively showed how to get the best of both worlds. Selling on multiple channels you can double your online income and it is not a bad idea. The eBay sellers aren’t familiar enough with Amazon, he explains the similarities and differences in such detail you can start selling on Amazon on the moment you finish to read the book.
http://www.mc-ebay-resources.com/recommends/SOTR2

It is true, we use to think of Amazon as just a place to buy books. We really need to take another look. Some sellers are making a killing selling the same products they sell on eBay, to an entirely different customer base.

Selling on 'the River' - The eBay Seller's Guide to Selling on Amazon.com” is packed with easy to follow, step-by-step instructions to get you started. You'll also get tips and advice, screenshots, explanations of terms, and a couple of video tutorials created to show you how to list your products on Amazon.

Personally I think it is an excellent idea, and you will be better off to try it:
http://www.mc-ebay-resources.com/recommends/SOTR2

Second, after month of searching, Tracy Edwards comes up with a new eBook called: “Auction Classified Cash” it is about using Auction Classified Ads for Digital Products.

It looks like the new rules stabilize and now Tracy explains how we can work with the new rules on Classified ads and use them to continue to sell Digital Products on eBay.

It is about how to take advantage of eBay classified ads for maximum profits, very good timing and an excellent idea, I highly recommend Tracy eBook:
http://www.mc-ebay-resources.com/recommends/ClassAd

You will learn:

  1. Why you should take advantage of eBay's Classified Ad format: you build your mailing list or make some quick cash promoting affiliate products
  2. How to step by step create your Classified Ads using either eBay's 'Sell Your Item' page or eBay's own Turbo Lister tool
  3. Find out the secret strategies for getting more clicks on your ad that will boost your traffic
  4. How to out perform your competition - even if they are promoting the same products as you
  5. Examples of REAL Classified Ads that are ranking well and which ad layouts get the best response and make you the most profit
http://www.mc-ebay-resources.com/recommends/ClassAd

Third, "Auction Traffic Formula" by Edson Buchanan just get out. His idea is don’t relay only on eBay's natural traffic. Discover how an eBay PowerSeller created a formula so powerful, it drives him over 10,000 unique visitors per month to his eBay auctions completely FREE!
http://www.mc-ebay-resources.com/recommends/AuctTraff

This eBook will show you exactly how easy it is to drive a ton of extra unique visitors to every one of your eBay auctions. The eBook will take you through every step eBay has to drive extra traffic then goes outside of eBay and shows you how to use the Internet for extra traffic. It is presented in an easy to follow format and has lots of videos that will show you exactly what the chapters are talking about.
http://www.mc-ebay-resources.com/recommends/AuctTraff

Summary:

My opinion is that the 3 products I just reviled have the power to get your eBay business to the next level, doesn’t matter what eBay as a company is doing.

I think it is clear that you are the one what must sophisticate, train, be in charged with the well being of your business, and master the eBay. Don't expect eBay to master your busines, they muster only there pockets.

Now you have the right tools to do just that!

All the best

How to eBay Classified Ads New Rules

Classified Ads and eBay Digital Products.

Since eBay banned Digital Products with instant delivery, Classified Ads was one solution but eBay never paid attention to Classified Ads and all of a sudden so many changes occurred, all of us got confused with both: Digital Products and Classified Ads rules as well.

I waited for a while to see if the eBay’s frenzy of changing rules will settle down.
Well, it is not a 100% grantee that the rules will stay as there are today, but at list they start to look stable and reasonable and I decided to start commenting them again.

I am glad that eBay solution for Digital Products is Classified ads because Classified Ads are:
  • One of the quickest ways to build a list
  • They are working for affiliate marketers and bum marketers for promoting other people's products and earning great commission

I am really grateful that new set of rules for Classified Ads are so easy to implement. If you are able to create a regular eBay listing then you can create a Classified Ad listing as well.

The Last Big eBay Convention Is History.

Chicago was the last because eBay decided to move closer to the eBay community in small cities, with less participants but face to face with real sellers and creating an environment in which each one can have a voice.
Moving in the community across America eBay hopes that connecting with the grass roots will be more profitable for sellers, buyers and eBay.

The first event will be in Oct. 3rd, 4th, 2008 at Fort Hays State University, 2 days event, $49.00 participating fee, max 250 people.
Each event will have a theme; in Oct. the theme is “Making Change Work”. For more info email Joyce at: yabie (at) ruraltel.net. The Education Specialists Trained by eBay are invited to participate, as volunteers and with no profit.

Now some details coming out of Chicago convention:
We are not allowed to use eBay as a marketing tool:

  • No more email addresses in your action description starting 1st July; it is a short notice, search all your listings and delete emails. It looks as eBay with communicate with our PayPal via email but we will never see the email address of buyers
  • No more links or references to websites outside of eBay, not even on “About me” pages. I don’t know when this one will start to be enforced. All you can have is a link from one of your listing to other of your listing or to your eBay Store
  • eBay will limit the “active content” in auctions listings. If you have flash code, animation, java script you must delete them except if they are coming from third parties that are certified as eBay providers. This is very tricky and slippery proposition; it will not be enforced until September.
As you can see, the new eBay management started a big offensive which is a cultural shift that will require all of us to rethink our business.

The old days in which a newbie jumps on eBay and starts selling whatever he can put his hands on are gone. Some categories are dominated by large sellers with deep pockets, as a newbie you must be an educated eBayer from the start. You must know to find good selling niche and avoid electronics etc. I think this will be hard to accomplish and eBay will lose a lot of new sellers who will be discouraged in the first 2-3 month of their eBay experience.

The change in feedback rules, the eBay being in favor of buyers and the creation of Detail Seller Rating (DSR), heart the most the community of sellers.

Keep in mind, to strive improving your DSR make sense:
  • Good score will produce more bids for you
  • Sellers with a high average score (greater than 4.6) will have an advantage in the search results (now eBay sounds like Google!)
  • Your high score can earn you free discounts as well, the highest 4.9 will get 20%, and the lowest 4.6 will get 5%.
  • The Education Specialists trained by eBay need to get 98% positive feedback to stay eligible.

Note: the score calculation produces a huge confusion:

  1. The score for bidders visible on your feedback profile is based on the past 12 month
  2. The fee discounts and search placements are based on your scores for the prior 30 days. In the case, if you don’t have a lot of activities and one single bad thing happened you are drastically affected, but because of the 30 days grace period, you can correct your score quickly.

To improve the DSR, we must:

  • Create accurate descriptions
  • Have good communication with buyers
  • Have a perfect shipping timing
  • Don’t inflate shipping and handling, just give up on handling and use an accurate shipping figure.

I notice that the community of sellers is not happy with the new changes, but personally I’ll be patient to see what happen in the next 6-12 month. I am not jumping to conclusion now.

To your success

Build An Information Products Long Term Business Online

Review of "eBay Powerseller In 90 Days" by John Thornhill

You expect this to be a product about - Becoming an eBay Powerseller In 90 Days, don’t you?

Well, that is covered in John Thornhill’s product - but it's actually much more than that.

Anyone who has ever tried to get to powerseller status on eBay will understand the reluctance of most people these days even trying for it.

I can tell you that only extremely stubborn and determined ever make it through!

What about the profit, these stubborn people actually make a profit out of eBay experience?

What John Thornhill does, from where is coming his enthusiasm about selling Information Products on eBay?

John has been steadily tapping into the Information Product market on eBay, he sells digital downloadable products and thereby avoids any trips to post office or costs involved, and in fact all he has are his eBay fees and PayPal fees. His enthusiasm is definitely coming from the fact that this market is huge if you use it properly.

John has a system in place that makes him money - as he has been trading on eBay for 5 years and he happily displays his eBay ID - planetsms, and his positive feedback of over 14,000. How many people you know with such a huge number of feedbacks? Personally I can count them with fingers from just one hand. He must do something right!

Did you hear comments about eBay being dead; there is no way we can continue to sell eBooks or other Information Products on eBay and so on?

Well I am curious by nature, and I studied what John did, how he did it, and I can tell you that I learned a lot from his experience. I had a lot of surprises and I ended trusting his knowledge, methods and I decided that he really was an example to follow. No regrets so far. I am happy with my results.

What he is offering now it is not an eBook about “Becoming an eBay Powerseller In 90 Days”.

He is offering a package, a membership, a specific fully build WebSite for selling Information Products without hype or hiding spots.
He is offering not just an action plan, but everything that anyone would need to know and follow.
He includes a host of tools and products, listing templates and literally thousands of ebooks ready to be listed on eBay or outside of eBay.
You are prepared for more - John adds new ebooks monthly.

If you are determined to be successful in this industry with a huge market you must start with his step by step tutorials and get everything set up to sell the quantity's required to achieve powerseller status.

What frankly impressed me more than tutorials, templates and eBooks; it was his FORUM, where he goes on to give more advice about maximizing profits through his "Many Streams Make A River" concept....

So to conclude:
Q: Can the 90 day powerseller package do what it claims?
A: In my opinion a definite Yes, if:
  • you are prepared to follow step by step and
  • put in the work initially required to get there.
But as I mentioned at the start having looked at the entire package, it is far more than just about eBay and PowerSeller status.

It's about:
  • building a sustainable long term business online,
  • incorporating many income streams, and
  • giving all the advice, help and support needed for anyone to achieve success
It is a fresh breeze, it really is!

eBay or Amazon or both

I finished reading an interesting e-Book and I cannot wait to share with you:

Selling on “The River”
The eBook Seller’s guide to Amazon.com
by former eBay University Instructor Steve Lindhorst,
foreword by Skip McGrath.

I was surprised, intrigue, and delighted in the same time because usually people are bias but Steve and Skip are really open minded and talented business men.

The general ideas are:
  • Don’t put all your eggs in just one basket! There are good benefits coming out from Multi-Channel Selling
  • eBay and Amazon are different, the rules are different, the audience is different
  • Both Steve and Skip want to use eBay and Amazon because they can compensate each other and they totally ignore “eBay Alternative Sites”
I cannot agree more. I looked at what we call “eBay Alternative Sites”, and I am not impressed. The software is poor, rules are simple and loopholes will be easy to create and abuse. If one of them will get as sophisticated as eBay application is now, maybe, but this is going to happen many years from now. Nobody can compete with eBay over the night.

To use both make a lot of sense to me.
EBay remains an “auction” company, still perfect for collectibles, antiques and vintages items, art and craft as well.
But the market place is changing as we speak. In the last 2-3 years people are more inclined to buy “fix-price” items, they don’t have time, and patience to follow an auction.
Amazon is perfect as a “fix-price” place to buy and sell.

I know the eBay rules but never had time to discover the Amazon rules, mainly because eBay use to educate people about eBay, but Amazon through you in the jungle and let you to discover how to get out of it and use it properly. If you meet a lion they don't care.

Steve Lindhorst is a very good teacher, he explains in details:
  • what eBay and Amazon have in common,
  • what is different and
  • when is better to use one or the other.
Finally I discovered the Amazon rules, and YES, make sense to use both eBay and Amazon not one against other. Use one to compensate the other.

After you read the 50 pages Steve’s e-Book you can jump and sell on Amazon as well.

Good luck!

Michaela

Selling Digital Products after eBay banning them

The Shock, After Shock, and Solutions.

First, it was the shock, the earth was trembling, we cannot sell Digital Products with Instant Digital Delivery on eBay, but we have the following options:
  • Put them on CD or DVD
  • Use Classified Ads
  • Use USB Flash Drives
  • Use Memory Cards
It was hard to swallow, not everybody was prepared to switch from Instant Digital Delivery to create a physical item and so on.

Second, it was an after shock, eBay changes the rules on Classified Ads which makes even harder to use them.
The new rules are:
  • We cannot put a "pay now PayPal button" on a Classified Ads
  • We cannot put an opt-in list on a CA
  • We cannot put an external URL to a website on a CA
To be honest with you, I was looking in disappointment at the new rules, and I ask myself what in the world we can put on Classified Ads to have a sell.
Is not the purpose of a list or a Classified Ad on eBay to generate a sell?

I overcame the after shock and I begin to use my search skills to find out what we can do.
This is my take on this:

Solutions:

1) We can create an eBay list for a physical product on CD. To do this we can use MyDD software to transform the PDF of an e-Book in a physical product CD or DVD. Also read the Do not Panic Report.

In just 2 weeks Socrates created a new version of MyDD which is able to do just that. With the version 3.0:

  • We send to MyDD the the URL of the PDF
  • They will work with kunaki to create the physical product
  • They will send the CD or DVD to the address we indicate.

This is a fantastic solution, it will cost a decent amount you will take it from shipping cost of the physical product paid by customer, and all you do is you transmit the URL of a PDF. This really means the process is still automated because you are not the one who physically pack and send the CD/DVD.

2) We can use a Classified Ad very carefully to stay in the eBay new rules. Up till now we have 2 solutions:

  • One is very well explained in a video by Jim Cockrum, the idea is to use just an email which will connect with aWeber email and use the power of follow up messages to send customers where you want. Search MySilentTeam for the video
  • The other one is to use John Thornhill technique of creating Classified Ads with an opt-in list for a discount of a product, request a confirm email address and again use Follow up messages of aWeber for the rest of the process (sale Page to buy it, etc).

You can go on eBay and look at planetsms to find an example of John's Classified Ad.

If you sell CD/DVD via eBay, I suggest looking it over Digital Media Solution and you will find exactly what you need to do, to take your Product to the next Level.

You will find out what are the advantages of placing your product on disk - because the size of CD you can include more bonuses in CD and increase the value of your product.

You will get a professional looking complete package which looks much better than “download a .zip file”.

  • You will learn how you can structure your CD/DVD to achieve simplicity and quality
  • You will learn how to create a simple menu system that will link to your CD/DVD content
  • You will get 5 CD/DVD pre-made menu designs for your auto-run disk navigation, complete with PSD source file, you can edit if you require and a ready to go HTML menu system
  • You will get 5 CD/DVD pre-made box designs for your need, complete with PSD source file so you can edit if you require, a ready to go default image and blank image
  • You will get 5 CD pre-made case designs for your CD cases, Complete with PSD source file
  • You will learn how to integrate an auto-responder newsletter subscription form
  • You will learn how to make your CD/DVD automatically run once inserted

and much more

You really will get a professional looking package which will make customers to return to do business with you.

New Rules on eBay Starting in May 2008

Hello! The light in my office is on, the coffee mug is there, let's get busy!

I’ll come back to an old topic now, “the eBay ban on Digital Products” (on Internet after 3 weeks … it is already old staff. It is amazing but it is true).

First it was a shock, I was unhappy too, but I didn’t start throwing stones on eBay.
I’ll explain why! There are actions with short or long achievement and usually the long achievement action can hurt from the beginning.

Do you remember when Google changed the rules on ranking in July 2006?
I lot of website owners was affected, me included. It was a brutal action; it was done over the night, without any explanation or giving us the new rules. I had Google tool bar on my browser and in one morning my rank was gone.
In a nutshell, the Google changes were done with a noble cause in mind, it was a loud cry for high quality pages, content pages!

The web was full of junk, without quality content and they wanted to stop the madness of poor pages on the Net. After almost 3 years, the web is cleaner now, everybody is convinced that the content is the king and the reason you are ranked or not. And everybody is striving to get content.

YES, a have to admit, there decision was a long term decision for improving the Internet content and, YES, they hurt a lot of people at the beginning of this process, but we are better off today.

Let’s come back to eBay. This is a company created for auctions, nothing else, just an application to facilitate e direct conversation between sellers and buyers about an item one wants to sell and the other wants to buy.

All of a sudden they discover that there are items which are selling at a price in the range if $0.01 and $0.99. I bought some e-Books costing me $0.10. Now eBay is a business, they make money taking a percentage, let’s say around $5.00.
1) How much they make if you sell some item with $0.10, please calculate $5.00 from $0.10.
2) It was a danger of transforming eBay in a junk auction company, a flea marketing company
3) They investigate why the sellers of Digital Products sell so low, the sellers really don’t make a profit and they are happy and continue to sell at so low price. They discovered the truth. The sellers of DP don’t make a profit on DP auctions, but they build a list, and they make a fortune outside of eBay with OTOs (One Time Offers), eBay doesn’t have earnings from OTOs and doesn’t care for them.

With other words we the people abuse the eBay system. It was not part of eBay business to create people's lists, in top of that people collected feedback for these low cost auctions and feedback system was manipulated as well.
I don’t make any excuse for eBay but I try to understand the reasons behind there action.

What eBay is doing now is what Google did in 2006. It is a long term decision to maintain eBay as a auction company, and maintain the good reputation of eBay, and don’t do business in the back of eBay with OTOs using the traffic of eBay.

I was hurt too but I really cannot blame them for doing it. Long term it will be OK and maybe the DP will start to sell at there real value. We have to stay in the positive side and obey the rules.

I didn’t like how they did it, it was a very short notice, they didn’t explain all the details, and when they changed the rules on Classified Ads they didn’t publish the new rules officially, to discover them you had to go in community help and read a lot.

What hurt me the most wasn’t the ban of DP, it was some rules they implement for feedback and PowerSeller policies.

My opinion is they have to treat sellers and buyers equally, the eBay founders did and for years the eBay business was prosperous and it was well appreciated by the public. Now the new rules are in the favor of buyers, and they forget about sellers.

Why I cannot let a negative feedback to a buyer, but the buyer can let me, the seller, a negative feedback. The buyers immediately begin to abuse the new rule, it was so many discussions back and force, and finally eBay changes the policy again. Starting from May a new change will be implemented in the favor of abused sellers this time.

The changes include protections for sellers against unfair negative Feedback:

1) Negative or neutral feedback will be removed when it appears a buyer is abusing the system. But, if you think this is happening to you, you must report to eBay by using the “Contact Us” link on any eBay Help page

2) eBay will also remove Feedback when a buyer doesn’t respond to an Unpaid item report

3) Or if buyer responds but doesn’t specifically call out seller performance, item condition or transaction problems

Wouldn’t be nicer just not to delete the equally treatment of sellers and buyers? But at list your voice made a difference.

Keep going the good work, eBay is still the best auction company and we all will benefit if we don’t abuse it. The focus must be how to stay within the rules, not how to find loopholes to do something else, profiting of FREE Bay traffic.

Regards
Michaela
