Finding a unique niche is one of the fastest and easiest ways to start making money on eBay.

As an Education Specialist trained by eBay I chat with my students, especially with the ones from the beginner class.

I use to ask simple questions as: what you want to sell on eBay, and the majority of answers are: electronics, cars, books, movies.

With other words, there are big dreams in areas with a lot of competition.

I gently ask if any research was done about the competition.

The typical answer is NO, and no wander that only 20% of new eBay sellers succeed and 80% fail. I don’t want to scare the beginners but I don’t want them to start with false promises.

To be successful on eBay you must understand the eBay phenomenon. Especially now, with millions of people on-line selling and buying, the items with a lot of competition are not a good start for a beginner.

EBay itself has changed over the years. There are hundreds of large companies, warehouses included, selling on eBay and this has made it harder for the little guy to compete.

I did 2 years ago some drop shipping with a warehouse I trusted. One year I made decent profit. All over sudden my products from that warehouse stopped to sell. I did some research and I discover that the warehouse itself started to sell directly on eBay, and the prices warehouse offered on eBay was lower then prices warehouse offered me to buy items. As you can see, I wasn’t able to compete with the warehouse, my own drop shipper, on eBay.

In 2 month I gave up doing business with the warehouse, I started to search other avenues to make a profit.

This is other crucial lesson, the market trends are changing rapidly and we must find our quickly enough and adapt at any new changes.
